Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son ad ICT advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy has said that those who had raised allegations of corruption in the Padma Bridge contract handover should now apologize to the Bangladesh government.
Joy posted a status on Facebook on Saturday, lashing against the ones who alleged the corruption as a Canadian court on Friday bunked all graft allegations in the Padma Bridge case.
The Bangladesh Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) had earlier said that it had found no corruption links in the Padma Bridge project.
However, the ACC had filed a case after getting reports of Canadian consultants SNC Lavalin’s alleged bribery attempts to win contracts in the project.
Five years after that case was filed by ACC, a Canadian court dismissed the allegations raised by the World Bank against SNC Lavalin as “unfounded”.
“Globe & Mail”, a leading Canadian daily reported that the judge had dismissed the allegations of corruption in the case filed by the prosecution based on wiretaps and phone intercepts.
The court said the wiretaps and intercepts in the case were just ‘rumours’.
“The evidence was fabricated by the World Bank. I had seen the evidence myself during the whole episode. It was quite clearly made up as there were no concrete details, just one anonymous source who was never revealed, even to the Canadian court,” Joy said blaming the World Bank for fabricating false information against her mother’s government.
Like his mother Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina did in earlier events, Joy also blamed the then US Foreign Secretary Hilary Clinton and Grameen Bank’s Dr Muhammad Yunus for the Padma Bridge controversy.
“Then US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had instructed the World Bank to cancel the funding of the Padma Bridge in order to punish our Government. She did so because Mohammed Yunus was repeatedly asking her to take action against my mother,” he said in his status.
